JUNIPER DECOMMISSIONING

Juniper Decommissioning Services UK

Retire Juniper EX switches, MX routers, QFX fabrics and SRX firewalls with a platform-specific plan. Compritech supports dependency discovery, controlled service withdrawal, configuration and media handling, physical removal and asset reconciliation.

Plan retirement around the role of each platform

EX switches and Virtual Chassis

Review access ports, VLANs, uplinks, link aggregation, spanning tree and powered endpoints. For Virtual Chassis, agree member withdrawal, control roles and the effect on remaining members before removal.

MX routers and service dependencies

Map routing adjacencies, advertised prefixes, routing instances and customer services. Agree traffic migration and withdrawal checks, including MPLS or VPN dependencies where present.

QFX switches and data centre fabrics

Check leaf or spine roles, EVPN-VXLAN membership, underlay and overlay routing, multihoming and connected workloads where deployed. Validate alternate paths before withdrawing fabric connectivity.

SRX firewalls and clusters

Review security policies, NAT, VPNs, zones and routing. For chassis clusters, assess redundancy groups, control and fabric links, remaining capacity and approved failover behaviour.

Management and credentials

Account for Junos configuration backups, local accounts, SSH keys, certificates, SNMP settings and monitoring integrations. Agree credential revocation and removal from management and inventory systems.

Hardware and recoverable assets

Record chassis, modules, optics, power supplies and serial numbers. Agree ownership, reuse suitability and handling requirements before equipment leaves its rack.

An agreed withdrawal and rollback plan

The work starts with device models, Junos releases, topology, configuration and the services still using the equipment. The customer approves the scope, change window and shutdown authority.

Identify devices, service owners, dependencies and the intended asset outcome.
Agree service migration, acceptance criteria, shutdown sequence and rollback triggers.
Capture authorised configuration and operational evidence with appropriate access controls.
Withdraw services and validate the remaining network against the agreed criteria.
Complete approved sanitisation, disconnection and physical removal.
Reconcile assets and provide agreed change, sanitisation and handover records.

Junos reset and storage sanitisation are separate decisions

A factory reset or configuration removal does not, by itself, prove that every storage location has been sanitised. The method depends on the exact model, installed media, Junos release, information sensitivity and intended reuse or disposal.

We agree the handling of configurations, keys, certificates, logs and internal or removable storage before work begins. Where an approved method cannot provide the required outcome, media removal or physical destruction can be assessed. Evidence and certificates are tied to the work actually completed.

What the project handover can include

Change and validation records

Agreed scope, shutdown approval, checks before and after withdrawal, exceptions and outstanding customer actions.

Asset reconciliation

Device and component records, serial capture, removal status and chain-of-custody records for transferred equipment.

Sanitisation and disposition evidence

The agreed method, verification outcome and handling route for each relevant asset or media item, with certificates where applicable.

Juniper experience applied to infrastructure retirement

Compritech founder Tosin Otuniyi brings Juniper Resident Engineer experience from Telecom Italia and technical leadership and escalation experience across a large UK defence Juniper estate. That background informs dependency checks, controlled change and operational handover.

Compritech provides independent engineering services. References to Juniper and previous assignments describe experience and do not imply endorsement or an authorised partner relationship.
